My path to becoming a personal trainer in 2006 was atypical at best. Along the way I have enjoyed the satisfaction of training countless athletes of all ages and all kinds to become as efficient as they could possibly be in their discipline. My training is both the educational and the personal variety. As I trained to be a superior athlete, to run marathons, to cycle, swim, weight train and experience many other forms of physical development, while very important, over time proved to be insufficient. And it became more and more clear that the mental aspect of physical training needed as much devotion as the physical.
I received a Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from The University of Edinburgh, Scotland and my personal history includes a decade of top-five finishes in a variety of racing events. I qualified for a spot at the 70.3 Ironman World Championships in Australia (2016). The best was yet to come as I worked to achieve personal records in both the Boston and Chicago marathons.
It was during that record-breaking time in my early 40s when I realized that achieving my goals and being the best I could be was based on my knowledge and tools as much as it was on my strength or my fitness. As my sports enthusiasm spread to swimming, biking, running and more, my desire to share that powerful combination took hold of me. The idea of FitIQ was born and through this platform I can finally offer my expertise to enhance the TOTAL person to anyone who is ready for it!

I have made many improvements to my soccer game through going to the gym with Ms. Jill and doing soccer specific exercises. My goal was to become stronger, faster and more powerful on the field. I not only was able to physically hold off opponents and be stronger on the ball, I also was able to sprint and get to the ball quicker. I feel better and more sure of myself during games. With more strength and power I’m able to kick the ball harder and further. My shots on goal have gotten better and my overall ability as a soccer player is improving.
I am 51 years old and have been working out consistently for many years. As an ex college football player I found myself doing many of the same type of exercises that I was doing 30 years ago. Although I work out twice daily I noticed myself at a plateau physically. This also caused me to lose enthusiasm for working out. I went to Jill and she completely changed my routine by incorporating a wide variety of exercises including strength, flexibility, cardio, and balance; sparking a new interest for working out. I also instantly began to see and feel results physically.
My fitness goals were to strengthen my hips and glutes and become a stronger runner overall. You helped me achieve this and my hips are now pain free and I am a healthy runner again. I have also been able to run new personal records in the 5k through strength training with you!
I first met Jill when we were both personal trainers, working at Spectrum Fitness. I was signing up for my first Half Ironman race and coincidentally she had been training for her first full Ironman race. Her dedication and love for the sport is what made me feel like I just had to have her as my coach. She agreed, and my experience with this sport would've never been as great as it was without Jill there by my side. She helped me through each step of this very intimidating sport; coming with me to my first swim practice, writing all of my workouts, helping me through the mental toughness and anxiety that comes with racing. She continued to train me through my first full Ironman and multiple marathons after. She always listened to my goals and designed my training workouts to perfectly execute my vision. She pushed me when I needed to be pushed, but also was conscious of when I needed rest if I was sick or injured. She cared about me not only as an athlete, but as a person and I am forever grateful to have had her as an example of how to be a great coach and mentor.
